behind the project
format explainers covering the biggest milestones of the year in lolesports’ global competitive scene: first stand tournament, mid-season invitational, and worlds.
we worked on shaping the videos through editing and post-production, making sure they looked and felt as polished as the competition itself.
we’ve been creating competitive format explainers for riot games’ biggest IPs for a long time. with league of legends, we love that these three tournaments are so clearly different in tone and aesthetic, which means we get to switch into a completely different mode every time we approach one of them.
first stand is more playful and chaotic, msi feels competitive but underground, and worlds is the glorious culmination of everything this game has built throughout the year. each one has its own personality, and we love the challenge of translating that into a video that communicates the format clearly while still capturing what makes each tournament feel different.
we’re players ourselves and follow the lol leagues throughout the year, so when these tournaments come around, they somehow feel a bit like christmas. we want the formats to be clear and easy to understand, but also epic, dynamic, and exciting enough to make you want to jump into an aram, a normal game, or a ranked, entirely at your own risk.
