El futuro es incierto pero prometedor
After more than a decade competing at the highest level in Counter-Strike and VALORANT, Óscar “Mixwell” Cañellas decided it was time to step away from professional play and focus on the next chapter of his career. He asked us to help him tell that story. El futuro es incierto pero prometedor is a documentary looking back at the people, decisions, sacrifices and moments that shaped his journey, from his beginnings in Spain to competing internationally and becoming one of the most recognisable figures in the VALORANT community, where he became affectionately known as “Padre.” We developed and produced the documentary alongside Mixwell, combining intimate interviews, archive footage, voiceover and newly shot material to tell his story in his own words.

behind the project
This one meant a lot to us.
We’d already worked with Mixwell several times and knew we clicked creatively, but being trusted with something this personal was different. His retirement wasn’t just the end of a competitive career. It was the closing of a chapter he’d spent most of his life building.
So we started with a lot of research, and a lot of conversations.
Together with Óscar, we looked back through years of archive footage and spoke to some of the people who had been there for the most important parts of his journey, from his brother Nixerino and his partner Rachel to friends, teammates and people he’d met along the way.
For the final part of the documentary, we took Mixwell up a mountain.
The metaphor was simple. His career had been a long climb, from fighting for every opportunity to competing at the highest level. Now that he’d reached a point where he felt he was at the top, it was time to stop climbing that particular mountain and choose the next one.
And we wanted the goodbye to feel special beyond the film itself.
We helped organise a private premiere surrounded by friends and family and created a mixed-media poster for the documentary, with printed copies for Óscar to sign and give to his guests.
He signed one for us too. It’s still framed in our office.
Some projects stay with you a little longer than others, and we’re incredibly proud that Mixwell trusted us to tell this part of his story, and very happy that we got to be there for the beginning of his next chapter.
